Newspaper report of an abolition campaign meeting held at Freemasons' Hall on June 17, 1814 to protest the Treaty of Paris, which allowed the French slave trade to recommence for five more years. The meeting resolved to petition Parliament for firmer action on abolition in the forthcoming European peace negotiations. A need for sensibilisation of the French public on the issue of the slave trade was also resolved: "to diffuse authentic information, and excite just sentiments".
