Account Slave Trade Coast Africa Ship Doctor Slaves Sailors Voyage Abolition

A former slave ship doctor, and witness for the abolition of the slave trade to the House of Commons committee in 1790-91, Falconbridge strongly condemned the slave trade on the grounds of cruelty and mortality among both slaves and sailors. Through making his experience on board slave ships public, and describing the alternative trade possibilities on the coast of Africa, he hopes to "render any service to a cause which is become the cause of every person of humanity" (iv).
