Published in English and Spanish, and distributed at the International Exhibition in London from May to November 1862, this Address aimed to remind Spanish visitors to the Exhibition that the slave trade to Cuba was still in operation, despite treaties signed in 1817 and 1835. The national honour of Spanish visitors is called upon by the signatories of the pamphlet, twelve members of the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society, who stress that "all Civilized Nations" except Spain have ended the African slave trade. Speeches by the British prime minister Palmerston and foreign secretary Russell criticising Spanish ineffectiveness in ending the slave trade are cited.
