The Centre d'Etudes Mexicaines et Centraméricaines is under the supervision of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is a member of the French Institutes abroad. Together with the French Ambassady, this centre coordinates Research and Cultural projects between France, Mexico and Central America.

 

The Centre hosts researchers with different skills of social sciences, from archeology to urbanism, with a long tradition of history, anthropology and geography. One of the research themes is about « Black communities » and « black people ». The purposes is to study and compare the identity manifestation and multicultural uses at regional national and international levels. In this research project CEMCA will analyse the means and characteristics of the emergence and acknowledgment of the Afro-identities. This will be studies in a multidisciplinary way including political cultural and social issues.
