York University is representing the Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on the Global Migrations of African People. TheTubman Institute is a recognized research centre at York University that specializes in the history of the migrations, under slavery and after, of African peoples to different parts of the world. It is also a digitalized research facility with a digitized archival repository. The Institute trains students in the use of digital technologies.

The Tubman Institute is involved in the preservation of materials, the training of graduate students, the hosting of conferences and workshops and the production of research and research publications.

The Tubman Institute insures the scientific opening towards the north-American universities (canadian and American). It is in the centre of a network gathering the best experts on the questions of slavery, slave trade and its legacies in contemporary societies. It will facilitate the distribution of the results of research for the program EURESCL; and will allow the mutual exchange of students and researchers, and the participation in joint publications.
